Jim Baker is founder and CEO of Xentrans Inc., a US-based provider of specialist expertise, project management and service delivery for wireless communications projects in the mass transit and public safety sectors. Most recently Jim has been project managing the deployment of 4G-based Internet connectivity on the light rail system in Silicon Valley.
Prior to founding Xentrans, Jim was founder and CEO of the award-winning Moovera Networks where in 2006 he conceived the Moovbox, one of the first ruggedized, multi-radio cellular gateways for in-vehicle connectivity. At Moovera, Jim and his team designed and implemented on-board broadband communications systems on trains and buses for some of the world’s largest transit operators including FirstGroup, Arriva, Stagecoach, National Express and Go-Ahead. Moovera was acquired by Icomera AB of Sweden in June 2008, and Jim served as Chief Marketing Officer at Icomera while heading up North American operations until June 2010.
As well as being a non-executive director of several technology companies, Jim is Chair of the Technology Committee of the Joint Council on Transit Wireless Communications (www.transitwireless.org), a US non-profit that is developing a strategic plan for implementation of wireless broadband technologies in public transportation.
